Im Gegensatz zum basketball-verrückten Philippinen (und trotz der Ami-Historie) ist der Sport in Vietnam nicht ganz so populär. Fußi, Volleyball, Badminton, Wrestling, Radeln, Schach und Domino sind verbreiteter. Aber das ändert sich: Seit 2016 gibt es eine Profiliga mit sechs Teams, die VBA.
„Although basketball was always popular among young people in Vietnam, the presence of the VBA has helped the sport to gain even more traction“, schreibt der Saigoneer. „Basketball courts have started appearing where football pitches once were, and pick-up games regularly take place outside of local arenas and in parks around the country.“
